JeffiferTydeIt is rare that, so early in life, one finds the perfect career position. The James W. Martin Family of students, parents, teachers and staff were part of Jennifer’s family. Her devotion to her teaching profession, to athletic training and to the student athlete was obvious. She thought herself to be well rewarded for her efforts, for as much as she gave of herself, she received so much more.

Jennifer Elizabeth Tyde was born June 26, 1972 at N.A.S. Patuxent River, Maryland, and attended Jenks Oklahoma High School, where she was a member of the state championship swim team. It was there that her admiration of the athletic trainers inspired her to become a trainer herself. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from the University of Tulsa and earned certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association, the State of Texas, and was a member of the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association.

Coach Tyde was an Athletic Trainer and American History teacher at Martin from August 1996 until her death in August 2000 after a yearlong battle with ovarian cancer. She was 28.

Jennifer’s love for her students and parents, athletic teams, coaches and booster clubs, fellow teachers and administrators is now being returned. In 2001, the Warrior Baseball Classic was changed to the Jennifer Tyde Martin Warrior Baseball Classic. This tournament is dedicated to her.

David, Gary and I want to welcome everyone to the Tyde Classic. What an awesome field of Coaches and Teams. I am proud to say that each one of these Coaches have a passion and respect for the game of baseball and their teams will reflect that same attitude. Thanks again for spending your weekend with us. Be safe, drive careful and we will see ya soon!
